Exercise: Check why an action is allowed
Use Check access to read one allowed result and one restricted result without changing access.
What you will learn
You will check an action and read the explanation. You will not add, change, or remove access.
Local practice only. Use a test tenant with made up information. Do not use customer information or a production installation.
Before you start
Use a test tenant. Ask an administrator for a practice account that can use Check access. Choose a made up practice person or group.
Practice the allowed result
- Open People and access.
- Choose Check access.
- Select the practice person or group.
- Select a resource that the subject can view.
- Select the View action.
- Run the check.
- Read the result and each reason shown.
Practice the restricted result
- Keep the same practice subject.
- Select a resource or action that is not assigned.
- Run the check again.
- Read why the action is not available.
Check your result
You should be able to name the subject, resource, action, result, and reason for both checks. A restricted result can be correct. Do not add access only to make the second check pass.
Clean up
This exercise does not create an item. Close Check access when you finish.
