Quick guide: Check an access result
Use a short checklist to confirm why one person or group can or cannot complete an action.
Before you use a printed copy. Check the documentation version and verification date at the top of the page. Use the online guide if this copy is older.
When to use this guide
Use it when a person needs a clear answer for one tenant, resource, and action.
Checklist
- Confirm the selected tenant.
- Confirm the exact person or group.
- Confirm the resource and action.
- Open People and access.
- Choose Check access.
- Run the check for the exact subject, resource, and action.
- Read the result and each reason.
- Check dates, direct assignments, group assignments, and any Deny result.
- Change access only when an approved change is needed.
- Run the same check again after an approved change.
Stop and get help when
- The subject or resource is not the one you expected.
- The result cannot be explained from the assignments shown.
- A conflict or another administrator's change is reported.
- You do not have authority to make the needed change.
Record
Record the tenant, subject, resource, action, result, reason, checker, and safe audit or request ID. Do not record a password or token.
