Exercise: Upload and find practice knowledge

What you will learn

You will upload a small file, wait for processing, and search for one fact from the file.

Local practice only. Use a test tenant with made up information. Do not use customer information or a production installation.

Before you start

Use a test knowledge database that has an embedding model. Create a plain text file named fern-practice.txt.

Project Fern starts on 6 October 2026.
The practice owner is Taylor.

Practice the upload

1. Open Knowledge.
2. Open the test knowledge database.
3. Upload fern-practice.txt.
4. Wait until processing reaches its final successful state.
5. Open the uploaded file and check its name.

Practice the search

1. Search for When does Project Fern start?
2. Read the returned passage.
3. Open the source information.
4. Compare the answer with the text file.

Check your result

The result should point to the practice file and show 6 October 2026. If it does not, check processing before you change the search words.

Clean up

Remove the practice file from the test knowledge database. Remove the local text file if you no longer need it.
